Mary A. Browning is a free lance writer and a professional genealogist who has
focused on the history and families of Guilford County, and especially of
Jamestown, for many years. She is the author of Bending the Twigs in Jamestown:
A History of Education in Jamestown, North Carolina, 1755-1945, which was
written for and published by the Historic Jamestown Society in 2004. In
addition, she has written a number of published family histories and has edited
many genealogical publications for the Guilford County Genealogical Society,
worked as a volunteer with the Historic Jamestown Society, and High Point
Historical Museum, and has taught how-to classes in genealogy at Guilford
Technical Community College.
Currently she edits The Southern Friend, the journal published by the North
Carolina Friends Historical Society. And, she is a Neighborhood Correspondent
for the Greensboro News & Record, and has published many newspaper columns
related to the history of Guilford County.
