THE VILLAGE FAIR
We held our 7th annual
Village Fair on Saturday, July 18, 2009. The Historic Jamestown Society holds a free fair
every year on the third Saturday in July, so mark your calendar for July 17,
2010 and join us for a day of quilting, spinning, crafts, music, food, fun and
games.
As part of the day's activities adults and children alike were
entertained by a number of stories as told by Charlotte Hamlin.
A variety of musical acts were on hand.
Kicking off the day were Ben Hurley and Gary Johnson, who entertained with guitar, musical saw and
bass. That's their photo on the right. They even invited youngsters from the
audience to come up and sing and dance along.
The Triad Scottish Fiddlers & Friends provided a number of toe-tapping
tunes from Scotland. They are a group from around the Triad who perform on
fiddles, guitar, dulcimer, and tin whistle.
Rounding up the day's activities were entertainers from Snow Camp Outdoor
Theater. They provided a piece of
musical history about the Underground Railroad with excerpts of their
production Pathway to Freedom.
The video project The Oakdale
Cotton Mills -- A Close-Knit Community has been completed. And sales of the
DVD were launched at the Village Fair. Copies are still available, so to get
yours contact the Mendenhall office and buy a piece of Jamestown history!
The price of the DVD is only $10 plus tax.
